ABOUT THE NOTEBOOK

Curiosity,
with a source beside it.

An independent reading project about the Greek myths and the writers who told them.

What this site does

greek-myths.folklore.im retells eleven Greek myths in our own words from the ancient texts, read in public-domain English translations, and sets them beside what museums, archaeologists and reference works say. Where ancient writers tell a myth differently, we name each one. It has a map, a timeline, a museum page, a quiz, a sorting game and a stamp card. It is made for curious readers, families and teachers. It is not an official museum or university website.

Truth first

Every factual sentence carries a label (History, Literature or Tradition) and a link to its source, with book and line numbers for the ancient texts. A story in a poem is never presented as a historical event. Nothing is invented: if a detail is not in a source we checked, it is not on the site.

Not connected with any film, book series, game or toy

This site draws only on ancient texts, museum records, reference works and public-domain or CC0 pictures. It is not connected with, or endorsed by, any film, television, book series, game or toy company, or any business that uses the names of Greek gods or heroes.
